  • Dominic Cork Worried About England Captain Eoin Morgans Struggles With The Bat

Dominic Cork worried about England captain Eoin Morgan’s struggles with the bat

Former England pacer Dominic Cork is concerned about Eoin Morgan's current run of form with the bat.

In the ongoing series against Netherlands, Morgan has been dismissed without opening his account in two consecutive ODI games.

He was trapped lbw by Pieter Seelaar in the first ODI, in the second game on Sunday (June 19) he lasted just seven deliveries before a top-edge off Tom Cooper was caught by Shane Snater.

In a discussion with Sky Sports, the 50-year-old ex-English cricketer said that the dip in form is a concern for the left-handed batter but he believes that Morgan still has a lot to offer to the England team.

"I am sure it is a concern for him and a concern for England but I think he's got some credit in the bank for what he's done as captain and what he's done as a batsman," Dominic Cork told Sky Sports.

Cork feels that Morgan is one good knock away from regaining his lost form and he's ready to back the most successful white-ball captain of England.

"It is not easy to not be playing a lot of world cricket at the moment, whether it be franchise cricket, and come back in. He just needs a knock that's all it is. Let's wait and see where we are in six, eight months' time," Cork added.

Morgan has been leading the white-ball side in both formats for close to a decade and is often credited for his team’s success.

Since the last year or so, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain is facing a lean patch when it comes to his batting and we haven’t seen the best of him for more than a year.

The England skipper’s batting average in the shortest format has been dipping with every passing year, recording 16.67 in the last year. Morgan has scored just one half-century in his last 26 one-day innings, at a time when the competition for places in England's top order has never been more intense.

With 248 ODIs and 115 T20 Internationals appearances, Morgan is one of the most decorated white-ball players England have ever produced. The Dublin-born cricketer led England to their maiden title in the ODI format after they defeated New Zealand on boundary count in the World Cup 2019 final.
