  • His Development Has Been Outstanding Misbah Ul Haq Heaps Praise On Shan Masood

His development has been outstanding: Misbah-ul-Haq heaps praise on Shan Masood

Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq feels that Pakistan should utilize the current form of Shan Masood by making him a part of Pakistan's limited-overs squads.

In an exclusive interview with Jazz Cricket, Misbah heaped praise on the development of Masood when asked if he should be a part of Pakistan's white-ball setup. Masood has been in terrific form with the bat in the UK for Derbyshire. He's second on the list of highest run-getters in this year's County Championship

The left-hander amassed 844 runs in just seven innings with two double centuries. Shan was also named PCA 'Player of the Month' for April for his phenomenal performances. He's currently leading Derbyshire in the ongoing T20 Blast 2022.

"I think looking at his performances, his development has been outstanding," said Misbah-ul-Haq.

"In one-day cricket [List A], he averages close to 57, scored a lot of centuries. And then the way he has performed in County Cricket, his performances in the PSL, he deserves a place," he continued.

There's a tough competition amongst the batters to get picked into the national team. But, according to the ex-Pakistan head coach, Masood should be kept as a reserve player in the squad, and if someone's unavailable to play, then he should get the nod ahead of anyone else.

"Whatever the case may be, he should be in the squad. And you have to keep in mind, that Pakistan have a very strong top three. It's very difficult to replace anyone but at some point, you have to keep in mind, that anything can happen. At least such a strong player should be kept in the loop.”

Misbah also highlighted the possibility of playing Masood in the middle order.

"At some point, you should give him a few matches and keep on giving him confidence. And then you have to decide that if anyone from 4,5 or 6 isn't performing, in the future you can talk to either Shan [Masood] or Abdullah Shafique and maybe use them there," added Misbah.

"That will be a plus and it will be a positive thing for the Pakistan side," he concluded.

WATCH | Shadab Khan's incredible one-handed stunner to dismiss Shamarh Brooks

West Indies batsman Shamarh Brooks was dismissed by a brilliant catch from Pakistan spinner Shadab Khan during the first ODI against at Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. The visitors won the toss in the series opener and chose to bat against the hosts. However, opener Kyle Mayers was dismissed after just three overs by premier pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, inflicting early damage on the Windies. They had to wait a long time for another breakthrough, as Shadab came up with a spectacular catch to dismiss Brooks on 70. When Mohammad Nawaz pitched the ball a tad full in the 31st over of the match, Brook tried to slog it over mid-wicket but only managed to find the top edge. Shadab, who was standing wide of the short third-man area, quickly covered the ground and grabbed a spectacular one-handed catch to end the 154-run partnership. Here's the video: Brooks smashed seven boundaries in his 83-ball 70. Meanwhile, Shai Hope led the West Indies to a solid 305-8 victory over Pakistan's highly touted bowling attack and the scorching Multan heat. Hope hit 15 boundaries and a six in his 127-run innings, which came off 134 balls. Haris Rauf, Pakistan's best bowler with figures of 4-77, ended Hope's innings in the 44th over when he bowled him with a slower delivery. Hope reached the three-figure-mark off 118 balls and got to his 4,000th ODI run in his 93rd match, driving pacer Hasan Ali towards the cover boundary. Moreover, West Indies' total turned out to be insufficient as Babar Azam registered his 17th ODI ton. The hosts won the 1st ODI by a margin of five wickets. After a COVID-19 outbreak in the West Indies squad during the preceding Twenty20 series in Pakistan, the ODI series was postponed last year.
