‘He's (McCullum) a very difficult person to say no to’ - Moeen Ali

England all-rounder Moeen Ali is keen to be back in England's Test squad for the Pakistan tour later this year if the opportunity comes his way.

Moeen recently declared that if new England head coach Brendon McCullum and Test skipper Ben Stokes so desired, he would be willing to give them another shot at Test cricket.

Ali has a superb Test career, taking 195 wickets and scoring 2,914 runs. However, he decided to retire from the longest version of the game last September to prolong his white-ball career. The 34-year-old Worcestershire all-rounder announced retirement from the oldest format after the Manchester Test between England and India was postponed in September last year.

Speaking to the BBC's Test Match Special on Saturday, Moeen had said, "I said to Brendon (McCullum) the door is never always closed if your country needs you, or guys are injured or your team needs you for balance. So yeah, I'm keen."

Having played with McCullum in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Moeen admitted that his former IPL teammate is a very difficult person to say no to. He further said that he would love to play under the duo of McCullum and Stokes and their character will suit his style of play.

"He's (McCullum) a very difficult person to say no to and I found that very, very hard. He's very convincing. To be honest, I'd love to play under him and Stokesy (Ben Stokes). Both (coach and captain) of them have that character about them. They're very aggressive. I think I would suit their cricket a bit more and I think they feel I would suit them as well."

"When, or if, Baz McCullum wants me, I'll play in Pakistan. I have played Pakistan Super League out there a few years ago, but it's not the same, to travel with an England side there and have a family background from that part of the world will be amazing. I know the support and love you can get out there, they love cricket. It's very appealing for sure," the England all-rounder concluded.

England will tour Pakistan after 17 years to play a T20I and Test series later this year in winter and Moeen could well be included for the historic three-Test series given his desire to play Test cricket in Pakistan.
