England women’s cricket team captain Heather Knight will not take part in the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies or the tour of India in June and July. The ECB confirmed that Knight is recovering from an injury and will now be closely monitored by the team’s medical staff.
Knight is an important part of the England team. She had been leading the team for years and is famous for being a cool captain and middle-order batter with sound technique. Her experience and batting talent have been the backbone of the English side.
However, ahead of the busy summer program, Knight has been injured and ruled out for a significant period.
Heather Knight Ruled Out For 2 Months With Injury
According to the ECB, Heather Knight has been ruled out for the entire summer due to a hamstring injury. She will miss the series against the West Indies and India scheduled in June and July and also skip The Hundred competition.
Knight’s injury reportedly requires further assessment. She will work with the medical team to decide on the best steps for her treatment and recovery. At this point, no exact date has been given for her return to cricket.
However, there is hope that she will be fit in time for the ICC Women’s World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in September 2025.
In her absence, England may try out some young talents and test their bench strength. This will also be a good chance for other senior players to step up and take responsibility.
Alice Capsey To Replace Knight In England’s ODI Squad
For the ODI series against West Indies Women, Alice Capsey has been called in as cover for Heather Knight, who suffered a hamstring injury during her unbeaten 66 in the third T20I against West Indies. Although Capsey only scored 4 runs in her lone innings of the series, the selectors see her as a valuable backup option. The 20-year-old all-rounder brings energy and versatility to the squad and will hope to make an impact in Knight’s absence.
