Harry Brook hogged the limelight despite his team’s defeat to Welsh Fire in their final league game of The Hundred 2023 season. Batting first for the Northern Superchargers, the cricketer belted an imperial 105* to factor nearly two-thirds of his team’s total in Leeds.

Stepping into the crease at 10-3, the 24-year-old ended up facing just 42 deliveries but he made them count, hitting his side with his boundary-laden knock.

Remarkably, Brook unleashed his career-best The Hundred score just days after he was axed from England’s 15-player World Cup 2023 squad in favour of all-round maverick Ben Stokes. His innings reignited much debate within the English cricketing fraternity, with many wondering if his exclusion by the team management was indeed a right decision.

English greats predict Brook’s roaring comeback in WC 2023

Having made his international debut back in January 2022, Harry Brook has turned up for England just thrice in ODI cricket, with the last of them being his side’s away series-decider against South Africa nearly eight months ago.

While Brook is yet to make his mark in 50-overs internationals, his performance in global leagues as a T20 freelancer and his attacking mindset in Tests for England have already solidified his reputation as a formidable cricketer.

Just days after getting axed from England’s 15-player World Cup 2023 squad, the youngster shot himself back into the reckoning with his outrageous 41-ball century in The Hundred.

Former England captains Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen both acknowledged Brook’s blitzkrieg and made some bold predictions about the cricketer’s World Cup fate.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Vaughan claimed that the youngster will eventually find himself on the World Cup squad in India. Pietersen reciprocated his ex-teammate’s views, and stated that Brook might even play England’s opening game of their title-defence.

England will launch their World Cup 2023 campaign in the tournament opener itself, facing fellow 2019 finalists and familiar foes New Zealand at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. The match will be played out on October 5.
