The astounding performance of Harry Brook has been one of the major highlights of the ongoing County Championship. The stylish Yorkshire batter currently occupies the top position in the list of highest run-getters of the tournament, with 635 runs from just six innings at a Bradmanesque average of 158.75. This sort of incredible return by the 23-year-old has amused most cricket experts worldwide as they expect the extremely talented batter to make his debut for England shortly.
The Yorkshire head coach Ali Maiden also believes that Brook is ready to face the challenges of international cricket. Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Maiden said that it is incredible to watch Brook bat these days. He seems to be ready to serve England because of the extraordinary batting form he has exhibited in England's premier domestic tournament so far. Maiden also said that it'll boost the confidence of the young fellow if he gets the support of the country and the media upon being selected for the national side.
"I think he's ready. Harry is in incredible form, and I just feel privileged watching him bat," Maiden said. "You just hope that if he does get in, he gets support from the whole country, the media and that things go well for him," he further added.
Getting the spotlight suddenly sometimes affects the performance of the youngsters negatively as they aren't used to it. However, as per Maiden, Harry is a lot more mature in this aspect as his returns have significantly improved since the media has started talking about him. As the Yorkshire coach put it, this is a very positive sign as it shows that the youngster hasn't succumbed to the limelight, something the players of his age usually do.
"He's got a good head on his shoulders. I don't think he would be overawed by the occasion at all," the Yorkshire coach added. "There's been a lot of speculation about him playing for England in the last few weeks, and you see it, don't you? Suddenly, the media are talking about young players, and their scores then deteriorate. But Harry's scores keep getting better and are actually going the other way, which is a positive sign," the 39-year-old concluded.
