Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have struggled in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season and have a minute hope of making it to the playoffs. Nothing has gone right for the four-time champions this season apart from the last few wins that they registered.
Meanwhile, the yellow army suffered another setback on Wednesday (May 11) as their ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the rest of the season due to a rib injury, verified by the franchise.
The Chennai-based franchise's CEO Kasi Viswanathan also confirmed the development to NDTV. "Yes he is ruled out, he has a bruised rib. He is out of the IPL," Viswanathan said.
Former Chennai Super Kings skipper missed the Super Kings' last game against Delhi Capitals owing to an injury, which he sustained while fielding during the team’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Earlier reported by various platforms mentioned that the franchise was continuously monitoring his injury closely over the past couple of days, but there were no signs of recovery.
Ravindra Jadeja had a miserable IPL 2022 season as he could manage only 116 runs in 10 innings at an average of 19.33, which is his worst in last three years and a strike rate of 118. He didn't make any impact on the ball either, picking just 5 wickets at an economy rate of 7.52 and average of 49.60.
MS Dhoni-led unit is still in the race for playoffs, and Jadeja's absence might impact the team's performance in the upcoming games. With eight points from 11 games, the Super Kings are placed at the bottom second spot on the points table, and the team needs to win all the remaining matches along with the dependence on the results of the other encounters to ensure a place in the playoffs.
They will next take on the arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on 12th May at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
