GT to take on CSK in the tournament opener as BCCI announces IPL 2023 schedule

In a remarkable turn of events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the league-stage fixtures for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. 

Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will clash against each other in the first game of the tournament on March 31. 

Ten top-tier teams, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Giants, Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, will battle it out in 70 league matches across 52 days for the coveted trophy. 

There are two groups in the tournament. While MI, RR, KKR, DC and LSG are placed in Group A, CSK, RCB, GT, PBKS and SRH are placed in Group B. Each team will play seven home and seven away games.

The announcement of the IPL 2023 schedule has brought joy to the cricket-crazy Indian audience, as they were waiting for the same from a long time. 

Although the eyes will be on marquee teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, sides like Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals will enter as dark horses. 

Meanwhile, the Women's Premier League auction, involving five teams, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants, UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals, was recently held in Mumbai. The IPL 2023 will follow the inaugural WPL set to take place between March 4 to 26.
