Indian women’s team clinched Gold at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou by defeating Sri Lanka in their Gold-Medal standoff. Senior pros Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues came up clutch with match-defining knocks in a low-scoring thriller, while bowlers Titas Sadhu and Rajeshwari Gayakwad successfully restricted Sri Lankans within 19 runs of their target in the final.

The success of the women’s team was met with huge enthusiasm across the country, with a legion of fans and several cricketing personalities extending their congratulations to Harmanpreet Kaur and co. Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor also joined in the hype by sharing a heartwarming note for the team through social media.

In the final, Team India charted up 116-7 on a tough Hangzhou surface off the back of rebellious 40s from Jemimah Rodrigues and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur herself failed to get going in her comeback game, as none of the other batters in the line-up managed to overcome double-digit scores in the innings.

Defending a moderate total, 18-year-old pacer and recent debutant Titas Sadhu claimed three Sri Lankan wickets all while conceding just six runs from her four overs. Rajeshwari Gayakwad also struck twice in her spell while Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar and Devika Vaidya all claimed a wicket each to restrict Sri Lanka to a silver medal finish.
