Parvez Rasool, the first cricketer to play international cricket from Jammu and Kashmir, has decided to retire from professional cricket. Rasool was born in Bijbehara in J&K and emerged as one of the most consistent all-rounders in the domestic circuit in his long 15-year career.
The cricketer announced his retirement on October 20 on his social media handle. Rasool, in his retirement post, has stated that he would continue to guide youngsters after his retirement and expressed gratitude for his long and fruitful career.
Parvez Rasool first came into the limelight around 2012 for his exploits at the domestic level and was included in the India squad for the Zimbabwe ODI series. However, he could not get a game and eventually made his ODI debut in 2014 against Bangladesh. Thus, he became the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play international cricket for India. It turned out to be his only ODI while he played a lone T20I in 2017 against England in Kanpur.
IPL experience and domestic exploits
He was also part of the three franchises in IPL - Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, he got only 11 games and could not make much of an impact with four IPL wickets and 17 runs to his name. He last played in the 2016 season of the Indian Premier League.
The Jammu and Kashmir cricketer, though, has 352 wickets in 95 first-class matches and 16 centuries with the bat. In List A cricket, he picked 221 wickets in 164 matches while he averaged 33.46 with the bat. Parvez Rasool last played a first-class match in 2023 for Badureliya Sports Club against Tamil Union in the Major League tournament. Overall, Parvez Rasool was the face of Jammu and Kashmir cricket for a long time and his rise paved way for development of more cricketers in the region.
