Enoch Nkwe appointed as Director of Cricket South Africa

The former first-class cricketer Enoch Nkwe is set to be appointed as the Director of Cricket South Africa (CSA). He will replace Graeme Smith, who didn’t choose to renew his contract at the end of March.

The former Proteas all-rounder and current Warriors coach Robin Peterson was also in line for this role but did not make the final cut.

Nkwe featured in 42 First-class, 38 List A, and 9 T20 matches for the teams like Lions and Gauteng from 2002 to 2009.

In 2021, Nkwe resigned from the role of the assistant coach due to the differences of opinion with head coach Mark Boucher. Since then, he has served as the strategic cricket consultant at the Highveld Lions.

The 39-year-old has been influential in coaching the Jozi Stars to title victory in the 2018 edition of the Mzansi Super League (MSL). In 2019, he was the coach of the Lions team, who emerged victorious in the tournaments like CSA T20 Challenge and the Four-Day Sunfoil Series.

In the past, he has served as the assistant coach to the Netherlands National Cricket team as well.

The former Director of Cricket, Smith had a controversial stint until this year. He was alleged to be racially abusive towards Black employees of CSA.

However, the former Protea skipper was cleared of the charges, but the legal process took a toll on him and forced him to discontinue the role.

Smith was seen as one of the commentators in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.
