ENG vs SA | Rassie van der Dussen reflects on his century

South African batter Rassie van der Dussen said the game plan was to get into a good position and run after the victory over England in the first ODI at the Chester-le-Street on Tuesday.


van der Dussen and Anrich Nortje guided South Africa to a composed 62-run victory as the visitors started off the ODI series on a high note. A career-best century from the 33-year-old helped him to earn the player of the match award. The Proteas batter struck an excellent and measured 134 off 117 balls (10 fours) on a blisteringly hot day in Durham.


Rassie reveals the game plan of the team 


Reflecting on his best ODI innings and the conditions, Rassie said, "Pretty hot today. We are used to it but it was quite dry and windy. We came into this series knowing we have to play smart cricket, physically it was hard but the game plan was to get into a good position and run hard. 


'Team happy with the batting effort'


Rassie had a record 151-run third wicket stand with Aiden Markram to push South Africa to their highest ODI total in England. The 33-year-old batter lauded Aiden Markram for playing brilliantly and said the team was happy with the batting effort.


"He (Aiden Markram) played brilliantly, all the guys who came in showed great intent. We are pretty happy with the batting effort. We will see how we did tomorrow and be ready to go again in three days' time.
