In a remarkable turn of events, veteran England fast bowler Stuart Broad has scripted his name as the second-highest wicket-taking seamer in the history of Test cricket.

Broad was stranded on 563 Test wickets at the end of South Africa's first innings on Saturday. However, he trapped a well-set Dean Elgar in the 22nd over of the Proteas' second innings to surpass the Australian legend Glenn McGrath's tally of 563 wickets and achieve this phenomenal feat.

After debuting in 2007 against Sri Lanka, Broad gradually established himself as one of the spearheads of the English pace attack. The tall right-arm fast bowler formed a lethal opening bowling pair alongside the legendary James Anderson to script many historic victories for the Three Lions in the purest format.

Although Broad was dropped along with Anderson just prior to the West Indies tour, the new management's recruitment saw them both regaining their spots in the national red-ball setup. The Nottingham-born has been phenomenal for England this summer, scalping 23 wickets at a magnificent average of 25.91.
