ENG vs NZ | WATCH: Root hits a ‘switch-scoop’ shot for a six; Wagner left in utter disbelief

If scoring hundreds was not enough, Joe Root has now produced something completely out of the textbook. The former English skipper went full unorthodox when he completely embarrassed New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner during the final innings of the third Test match. After negotiating through the early phase of his innings, Joe Root decided that he had enough and tried something very unconventional.

Root reverse-scooped Wagner for a six towards the third man region. The commentators were left stunned and so were the fans in the stadium. The Kiwi seamer just could not believe what had unfolded and murmured a few words to his opponent.

The Englishman just had a small laugh about it, while the Kiwi pacer stood there feeling dumbfounded.

Meanwhile, in a chase of 296 runs, the hosts have bounced back pretty strongly with a formidable partnership between Ollie Pope and Joe Root after losing Alex Lees and Zak Crawley.

Root, concurrently, has been in sublime form in this series. In fact, he has been one of the key architects of the situation England find themselves in. The middle-order batter has registered a century in the first two Test matches and is England’s top run-getter so far.

The hosts have a golden opportunity to inflict a clean sweep on the reigning World Test Champions, which would be a perfect start to Ben Stokes’ stint as English red-ball captain.
