ENG vs NZ | Participation of Henry Nicholls doubtful as he sustains calf injury

New Zealand batter Henry Nicholls has suffered an injury which puts his participation in doubt for the Test tour of England, head coach Gary Stead said on Tuesday (May 10).

Just before the team's departure for the UK for the upcoming series, Nicholls suffered a calf injury on Monday at a pre-tour camp in Mount Maunganui. The middle-order batter was doing the running drills in the practice session before he was caught with injury.

The 30-year-old reportedly has sustained a calf injury in his right leg. However, the Blackcaps head coach said that the team management would get the idea about the extent of the injury only once the scan results will be revealed.

"He's having an MRI scan later today, so we'll know more after that as to the extent of it. But he's got it strapped up, and I guess the next 24 to 48 hours will give us an indication of how serious that is," said New Zealand head coach Gary Stead as reported by ESPN cricinfo.

The seriousness of Nicholls' injury should get clearer within the next day or so, and New Zealand would be hoping that he'll be fit at the time of the first Test at the Lord's Cricket Ground.

In his Test career, the stylish left-handed batter has played 46 Tests so far, and he has scored more than 2500 runs at an average of more than 40. He has also scored eight hundreds and twelve fifties so far. The southpaw has been one of the most dependable batters for New Zealand.

Last week, New Zealand Cricket named an extended 20-man squad for the three-match Test series against the Three Lions.
