ENG vs IND | "We wanted to give guys seating on the bench a chance", Rohit hints at the inclusion of reserve players in third T20I

By virtue of some stunning individual performances, India emerged victorious in the second consecutive game of the ongoing T20I series against England.

In the post-match presentation, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma heaped praises on Ravindra Jadeja, who scored an unbeaten knock of 46 runs to help his side post a respectable total on board.

Rohit added that Jadeja has carried on from the hundred he scored in the Test match against England at the same venue.

"I really wanted to see how we perform after a team and challenge us as a group. Brilliant knock under pressure," Rohit said.

"We wanted someone to bat through and get us a score, Jadeja had scored a hundred here, and he carried on from there," the veteran opener added.

After being asked to bat first, India had a great start to their innings, courtesy of the quickfire cameos from Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant. They also picked early wickets with the new ball, pressuring their counterparts straightaway from the beginning.

Rohit stressed that the team understands the importance of excelling with both bat and ball in the powerplay and assured the fans of doing the same in the third T20I.

"We understand the importance of the powerplay, be it scoring runs or taking wickets. We look forward to another game tomorrow,"

Rohit also revealed that the think-tank would consider giving chances to the reserve players in the third T20I in Nottingham.

The skipper stressed the importance of testing the bench strength, which means the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Avesh Khan are in for a shout. Moreover, having already clinched the series gives the visitors an extra bit of cushion to experiment in the final T20I.

"We wanted to give guys seating on the bench a chance, I will go back and speak to the coach about that. We need to keep ticking the boxes and move forward," the 35-year-old concluded.
