'We're moving in the right direction': Rohit Sharma on India's preparations for the T20 World Cup

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma doesn't want the team to be complacent three months prior to the World Cup after sealing the T20I series against England at Edgbaston on Saturday (July 9).

Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja starred as the men in blue defeated England by 49 runs to win the second T20I at Edgbaston and so take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

In the post-match presentation, when Rohit was asked how he is feeling with the mega-event just months away. The Indian white-ball captain said that he's happy that the team is moving in the right direction but doesn't want the complacency factor to creep in with these performances.

"Fingers crossed, we're moving in the right direction. The only red flag I see is we shouldn't get carried away by these performances. We need to keep performing this way," said Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

England lost their second T20I series in one year as the last series defeat came in 2021 in India. In total, India has handed England a series of defeats on 4 occasions now; Two in England and two in India.

High praise for the England side

The Indian opener claimed that England is a good team irrespective of the conditions they play in.

"I think we all know how good they are as a team, wherever they go, not just in England. We were up to the challenge and were clinical in what we wanted to do and were clinical with the bat and the ball. When you win games it's always nice," added Rohit.

After claiming his 14th consecutive win as the captain of the T20I team, the 35-year-old cricketer is feeling confident and said the same confidence is amongst the group which he feels is important to have in a team environment.

"You feel confident and there's a lot of confidence amongst the group as well, which is very important. We just want to continue and focus on what lies ahead for us. I really wanted to see how we perform after a win and we really want to keep challenging ourselves as a group."
