ENG vs IND | Virat Kohli rested for 1st T20 as India announce white-ball squad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Thursday, announced squads for the upcoming three-match ODI and T20I series against England, starting from July 7. Team India is currently gearing up for the one-off Test against the Stokes-led English side, starting from Friday. 


With only a two-day gap between the completion of the first Test and the advent of the T20I series, the members of the Test squad have been provided with a small break as BCCI has announced two different squads for T20Is.


The Hardik Pandya-led contingent, which recently won the series 2-0 against Ireland, will play the first T20I against the Jos Buttler-led side with Rohit Sharma being at the helm. The Edgbaston Test-bound players, namely Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the opening T20I and will return to the team for the last two matches.


For the One Day Internationals (ODIs), the selectors have called up Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammad Siraj and Hardik Pandya. The wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has also been added to the squad as the backup of KL Rahul. The young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has also received his maiden call-up to the ODI squad.

After the conclusion of the final Test against England, India will play three T20Is and three ODIs against the Three Lions under their new skipper Jos Buttler. 


The T20I series will kick off on July 7 and will be played at Southampton, Birmingham, and Nottingham, followed by three ODIs taking place at The Oval, The Lord’s, and Manchester.
