ENG vs IND | Stuart Broad all but ruled out of remainder of Test series

England pacer Stuart Broad has suffered a serious injury scare and is doubtful for the remainder of the home Test series against India. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed the nature and extent of Broad’s injury and said that a decision on his availability will be taken a day prior to the Test after scans.

"England seamer Stuart Broad has tweaked his right calf in today's warm-up at Lord's. He was unable to train this afternoon with the rest of the England squad. Broad will have a scan tomorrow to determine the extent of his injury," the ECB said.

Broad, a veteran of 149 Tests, was all set to play a marquee 150th Test of his career at Lord’s in the second Test against India starting on August 12.

Broad’s injury and likely absence from the side will further complicate matters for the skipper Joe Root and coach Chris Silverwood, who are already scrambling to find a balanced playing XI in the absence of Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes.

England have found a genuine pacer to utilise the conditions in England in Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood could walk in into the playing XI at his place for the Lord’s Test.

The injury could also have come at a right time for Broad as he has been struggling to find wicket-taking spells he has been known for.

The Hundred | Southern Brave vs Welsh Fire: When & where to watch match Live, Probable XI, Fantasy XI

The Welsh Fire have reached such a position that the only thing that can even give them a long shot at the Playoffs qualification, is nothing but victories in their last two games. While they play their last away game at Southampton against the Southern Brave, they will have an easier challenge in London Spirit back at home, who have also had a similar fate this season with only three points from six games. However, to even think about that encounter, the likes of Ben Duckett, James Neesham and Glenn Philipps would have to bring their ‘A’ game out on the table. Having lost their last four games on a trot, it is not going to be an easy task, but it isn’t impossible either. Their competitors though have had a revival of some sort as they have managed to win their last three games, having lost the first two and are now vying for a top of the league finish to get a ticket to the finale. Thus it is going to be interesting to see how two teams on different sides of the spectrum treat this all-important game at the Bowl. Southern Brave vs Welsh Fire: Match Details Match Number- 25 Date and Time: 11 August 2021, 11:00 pm IST, 06:30 pm Local, 05:30pm GMT Venue: The Rose Bowl, Southampton Live Stream: FanCode Pitch Report The wicket at Southampton has generally supported good cricket and even in the two Hundred games that have taken place here, they have been high scoring and a true pitch with something in it for everyone has been on offer. It looks like going the same way for the last two games as well. Weather Forecast There is no forecast of rain and the temperatures will remain in the higher 10s with windspeed around 9-12 kph and thus it might be chilly at the Bowl, but won’t stop people from enjoying a night of The Hundred. Reports: Shardul Thakur and Stuart Broad set to miss second Test at Lords

Indian bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur is a doubtful starter for the second Test against England slated to be played at Lords in London from 12th August if reports in the Guardian are to be believed. If Shardul does miss out, India could go with a spinning option in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin. India went with Ravindra Jadeja as the lone spinner in the opening Test in Nottingham in order to accommodate Shardul Thakur as the bowling all-rounder. The presence of Jadeja and Shardul meant that India had depth in their batting line-up. While Shardul didn’t prove his worth with the bat, his twin wickets in both innings changed the complexion of the game. Ashwin despite being arguably the finest spinner in this format had to sit out due to the team combination. Many pundits were baffled at his exclusion from the team sheet despite consistent performances in Australia and against England at home. Meanwhile, star English fast bowler Stuart Broad is likely to miss the second Test after tweaking his right calf during a training session ahead of the second Test. Broad looked off-colour in the first innings of the opening Test but came to his own in the second innings where he dismissed KL Rahul with an unplayable delivery. If Broad misses out, England could prefer to go with Mark Wood. “England seamer Stuart Broad has tweaked his right calf in today’s warm-up at Lord’s," ECB said in a statement. “He was unable to train this afternoon with the rest of the England squad. Broad will have a scan tomorrow to determine the extent of his injury,” the statement further added.
