ENG vs IND| Sanjay Manjrekar Criticises Shardul and Siraj post India's crushing defeat at Edgbaston

The England side on Tuesday achieved a milestone as they recorded their highest ever run chase in Test matches and won the rescheduled Test match at Edgbaston to level the series.

The deadly duo of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow stitched a mammoth unbeaten stand of 269 runs, playing a crucial role in England's emphatic seven-wicket victory.

The Indian side had some hopes when England was 109/3; however, the attacking mindset of Root and Bairstow made it difficult for the Indian bowlers to defend the target.

Indian skipper – Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets for 74 runs in the final innings; the rest of the bowlers were wicketless. Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj leaked runs at an economy of 5.9 and 6.5, respectively, which proved costly for the visitors.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that Thakur isn't as compelling as he used to be in Test cricket around one-and-a-half years back.

"I think Shardul Thakur is not the same bowler we saw in Test cricket, maybe 18 months back," said Manjrekar after the match.

Regarding Mohammed Siraj, the former Mumbai batter said: "I have been watching Mohammed Siraj's evolution as a bowler. The seam-up delivery has just gone."

Coming back to the match, India scored 416 runs after batting first. The visitors then bundled England out for 284 to take a first-innings lead of 132 runs.

However, despite being in the driver's seat in the first three days, the Indian side lost the plot in the second innings and got bowled out for 245. England chased 378, courtesy of a spectacular collective batting performance.
