Sri Lanka add Prabath Jayasuriya to the squad for the second Test against Australia

Ahead of the second Test match against Australia, Sri Lanka have added spinner Prabath Jayasuriya to the squad. The development came after left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama tested positive for Coronavirus.

Jayasuriya is a left-arm leg-spin bowler representing Colts Cricket Club and Jaffna Stallions in the domestic circuit. The 30-year-old received his maiden call-up to the national side in 2018.

The spinner featured in two One Day Internationals for Sri Lanka.

However, he failed to impress in the matches as he could not pick up a wicket and ended up conceding runs at an economy rate of 5.93.

The right-hander has spectacular first-class records to his name. Since his domestic debut in 2012, he has played 62 red-ball games picking a whopping 234 wickets at an economy rate of 3.39 and an average of 25.6.

Sri Lanka cricket took to their official Twitter handle to announce the news of Jayasuriya being added to the Test squad. Sri Lanka and Australia will fight it out in the final Test of the two-match series from July 08 to July 12 at the Galle International Stadium.

“Team Updates: Prabath Jayasuriya was drafted into the Test squad. The player will join the squad today,” Sri Lanka Cricket tweeted.

Australia lost the five-match One Day series against Sri Lanka by 2-3.

However, the visitors have made a stunning comeback following the poor performance. Pat Cummins and his side were lethal in the first Test match as they secured a victory by ten wickets.

It was a comprehensive and all-round performance that propelled Australia to a clinical victory. Sri Lanka scored only 212 and 113 runs in their two batting innings.

Meanwhile, spinner Nathan Lyon caused the most destruction for Australia as he picked nine wickets across two innings.

Regarding their performance with the bat, Australia smacked 321 runs in their first innings. Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green were the standout performers with knocks of 71 and 77 runs, respectively.

Australia will hope to continue the momentum and complete a clean sweep in the Test series. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will play for their pride.
