ENG vs IND | Rohit Sharma completes 1000 T20I runs as captain

The veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma reached the landmark of 1000 runs in the T20I format as captain.  

In this pursuit, he became the third Indian cricketer after MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli to add this milestone to his illustrious career. 

Sharma achieved this feat in the first fixture of the three-match T20I series against England at Southampton. He returned with a knock of 24 off 14 balls, comprising five fours. 

During his short stay at the crease, Sharma exuded confidence to the side with his positive intent from the first over of the innings and helped India to get a quick start in the powerplay. 

However, Moeen Ali induced an outside edge off his willow, with the ball caught by the skipper Jos Buttler behind the stumps. 

Rohit, who needed just thirteen runs to complete one thousand T20I runs as captain before the game, has now become the tenth player on the planet to do so.  

The 35-year-old took 29 innings to pass this run mark, being second fastest after Babar Azam (26). 

To note, Australian skipper Aaron Finch tops the list of most runs as a T20I skipper with 1971 runs in 165 innings. On the other hand, the former Indian captain Virat Kohli has 1570 runs in 46 innings.
