ENG vs IND | Ravindra Jadeja elated to score his maiden overseas Test Hundred

At the end of day 1 of the rescheduled fifth Test, Jadeja had worked his way patiently to 83 off 163 balls with ten fours.

On returning in the morning with Mohammed Shami on the other end, Jadeja had no options but to take his chances, and in an attempt to do that, he finished with 104 off 194 balls with 13 fours.

Jadeja had come in to bat with India tottering at 98/5 on the morning of Day 1. Then, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant formed a strong partnership against a quality English bowling attack.

While Pant went berserk against the host's bowlers, Jadeja quietly played second fiddle, more cautiously, holding the one-end job perfectly.

Both southpaws stitched a record partnership worth 222 runs off 239 balls which was also India's fourth-highest partnership in Test cricket.

In the press conference at stumps on day 2, Jadeja said he's feeling good to score his first ton outside India, especially in the swinging conditions of England.

"I'm feeling really good. To do it outside India, especially in England, to hit a hundred as a player is a really big thing,"

"I can really take some confidence in myself as a player from this, to score a hundred in England, in swinging conditions, so yeah, it feels really good," Jadeja said at the end of Day 2.

After batting for the majority of the first innings, Jadeja is quite happy not to play his role with the ball in England's first innings with the bat as four Indian fast bowlers bowled well and shared all the five English wickets amongst them on day 2.

"It might be that I have no role to play at all, which will be a good thing. The way our four fast bowlers are bowling, (Jasprit) Bumrah, (Mohammad) Shami, (Mohammed) Siraj, and Shardul (Thakur), I want that I don't have a role. So that'll be best for the team," said Jadeja.

The number one Test all-rounder in the world is ready to do whatever his team demands from him. He also termed himself a 'team player'.

"My job is to do whatever the team needs me to do. As an all-rounder, sometimes the situation is that you need to make runs and save the team and help them win,"

"In bowling, you sometimes have to provide the breakthroughs and break partnerships or chip in with one or two wickets. So I consider myself only a team player who does whatever the team needs," added Jadeja.

Jadeja has been in great form since 2018. The batter has done well since scoring his first hundred in Tests. Jadeja has scored over 1300 runs, with an average nearing 49 since 2018.
