ENG vs IND | Jos Buttler showers praise on Bumrah after his heroics in first ODI

England white ball captain Jos Buttler lauded Jasprit Bumrah for his match winning bowling spell in the first ODI at the Oval on Tuesday (July 12).

In the first ODI of the three match ODI series between England and India held in London, Indian quick Jasprit Bumrah ended the match with exceptional figures of 6/19 in 7.2 overs, bowling three maiden overs along the way to help his team win the first one-day international by 10 wickets.

In that process, he also became the first Indian fast bowler to scalp six wickets in the 50-over format in England.

Bumrah ran through England's top order in the power-play, as half of the English batters were sent back within the first 8 overs.

Buttler can’t stop praising Bumrah

In the post match presentation ceremony, when Buttler was asked about Bumrah's sensational spell, the English skipper said that the Indian spearhead is a great bowler and he deserves the returns of  6/19.

“Jasprit (Bumrah) is a great bowler to come up against. He has bowled fantastically well today and deserves these figures. It is never easy when you are forced to try and force wickets. Isn’t nice when your bowlers have to take as many risks and when you ask so much out of them," said Jos Buttler in the post match presentation of the first ODI.

Leading England for the first time in ODI since taking over as the full time white ball captain, Buttler was disappointed with the loss and admitted that he was left surprised by the amount of movement the Jasprit Bumrah led India's bowling attack got in the first innings to restrict his team to a below average total of 110.

“Very tough day to take, but we've got to dust ourselves down quickly. Little surprised by the movement, bit muggy. India exposed the conditions superbly. They have bowled really well in the powerplay. It is something we need to discuss and work out. We have some guys in the form of their lives in Tests coming here and getting nicked off."

The second ODI of the three-match ODI series will take place on Thursday, July 14 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
