  • Eng Vs Ind 1St Odi Keeping Things Simple Was The Key Says Bumrah After Oval Masterclass

ENG vs IND | 1st ODI | 'Keeping things simple was the key', says Bumrah after Oval masterclass

Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root- three of the finest English batters fell prey to Jasprit Bumrah's masterclass on Tuesday. The 28-year-old registered his career-best figures in ODI cricket, picking six wickets for just nineteen runs.

The Indian pacers helped restrict England to a considerably low total of 110 runs, as the visitors claimed an emphatic 10-wicket victory in the first ODI.

The seamers enjoyed a field day at the Oval, with Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah dismantling England's star-studded batting lineup.

Bumrah found it exciting to bowl in overcast conditions, which offered good seam movement and swing. The 28-year-old revealed that he found some swing early into his spell and tried to exploit the conditions.

Moreover, Bumrah stated that keeping things simple was crucial in such conditions. He stressed the importance of bowling consistent and accurate lengths.

"When there's swing and seam movement, it is very exciting in white-ball cricket to get that opportunity because you have to be defensive with the kind of pitches we usually get. When I bowled the first ball, I found some swing, and we tried to exploit that," said Bumrah, who was awarded the Player of the Match.

"When it doesn't swing, I have to pull my lengths back. When the ball is doing something, you don't have to try a lot," he added.

Bumrah also took a moment to applaud Rishabh Pant for his excellent glovemanship in the first ODI.

Pant took three catches in the game, with two being one-handed stunners.

The 24-year-old was positioned correctly to grab the difficult chances, which earned him praise from the ace Indian paceman.

"When the ball is moving around, the keeper and the cordon is very active. Very happy that Rishabh has been working hard on his keeping as well as his batting," said Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah also seemed delighted for his new-ball partner Mohammed Shami. The Bengal-based pacer had three scalps to his name, including key wickets of Ben Stokes and England captain Jos Buttler.

"As soon as Shami bowled the first over, we had a conversation to go fuller. Very happy for him; he gets a lot of wickets. I told him when he beats the bat, that there would be days when he'd run through the side," Bumrah concluded.
