  • Eng Vs Ind 2Nd Odi Reece Topleys Career Best Figures Sees England Level The Series

ENG vs IND | 2nd ODI | Reece Topley's career-best figures sees England level the series

Heading into Lord’s for the penultimate ODI of the series, India had a chip on their shoulders as they utterly humiliated England by ten wickets in their first clash.

Skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to invite the hosts to have a go with the bat first. England had a good start with their openers stitching together a 41-run partnership for the first wicket.

Pandya provided India with the first breakthrough as he picked off Roy at deep square leg. Chahal then ran rampant as he picked consecutive wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root in the middle overs.

Moeen Ali and David Willey save the day for England

After the early setbacks, the English middle-order managed to salvage some pride as Liam Livingstone stitched a 46 runs partnership with Moeen Ali for the sixth wicket before perishing to Pandya, who closed the tally with two wickets to his name.

Ali went to add another 62 runs to the total alongside David Willey for the seventh wicket to see England get past 200 runs. Chahal once again emerged as the strike bowler as he gave India the breakthrough by picking off Moeen at 47.

India collapse under pressure as Reece Topley bags six

The chase was never easy for India as they lost Rohit early in the third over, as Reece Topley picked him off on a ten-ball duck. Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, and Virat Kohli soon followed the skipper to the dugout leaving India down to 31 at the loss of four wickets.

Suryakumar Yadav added 42 runs for the fifth wicket alongside Hardik but failed to take it to the end as Reece Topley knocked his stumps over, picking his third wicket.

Jadeja gives his all but India collapse under pressure

Jadeja put up a valiant effort alongside Shami to add 39 runs for the seventh wicket, but it was all for nought as Livingstone knocked his stumps over.

The English bowlers then made quick work of the last two batters, winning the contest by 100 runs to equalize the series. Topley emerged as the Player of the Match with six wickets.

Imperious Shami becomes most successful bowler against Jos Buttler in ODIs

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler's poor form against the Indian bowlers continued at Lord's as the swashbuckling batsman could only manage a 5-ball 4 in the 2nd ODI. Buttler's struggles against Mohammed Shami in both Tests and ODIs are well documented and once again, the latter got rid of the Lancashire cricketer. Shami has one of the best seam positions in world cricket and when he pitches it full, he's irresistible. Buttler found that out for the umpteenth time on Thursday as the pacer, with his upright seam, bowled full and straight on middle and leg-stump. The keeper-batsman went for the flick, only to hear the death rattle of his stumps. Also Read: Yuzvendra Chahal breaks Amarnath's 39-year-old record at Lord’s No other bowler has had more success against the swashbuckler than the Bengal pacer. In five encounters with the right-arm seamer, the wicketkeeper-batsman has managed just 54 runs off 52 deliveries at an average of 10.8, and, in the process, he has been dismissed five times. Buttler's sorry record against India in ODIs The hard-hitting right-hander's issues against Shami helped India keep a lid over one of the great white-ball batters of the modern era. In 18 innings against India, he has managed just 365 runs at an average of 20.27 with two 50+ scores. About the Match His dismissal came at the worst possible time for the home side, which was already grappling with the dismissals of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. Ben Stokes soon followed his skipper in the dressing room but handy knocks from Moeen Ali (47) and David Willey (41) ensured that England got to 246. At the time of writing, Team India was reeling at 73/5, with the English seamers running through the top-order, including Rohit Sharma (0) and Virat Kohli (16). Twitter goes berserk as selectors drop Sanju Samson for West Indies T20Is

In a surprising turn of events, promising wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was dropped from India's squad for the West Indies T20Is, starting later this month. Notably, after making his comeback into India's white-ball setup, Samson impressed everyone by smashing a 42-ball 77 in the second T20I against Ireland. However, he was not included in the Indian team for the England T20Is. Now, his exclusion from the series against Windies has raised a lot of confusion regarding India's approach in the shortest format. Also Read: BCCI announces T20I squad for WI tour Many Indian fans and experts have found Samson's exclusion difficult to digest, as evident from the reactions mentioned below. Former Indian fast bowler Dodda Ganesh slammed the selectors for preferring Shreyas Iyer ahead of Samson. The fans also expressed their disappointment at Samson's exclusion from the squad. Some fans even trended '#JusticeforSanju' supporting the Kerala-born stumper. Some Indian fans went a step ahead and advised Samson to try his hands playing for another country. Is the backlash justified? The fans' agony is justified as Samson has recently been phenomenal in the shortest format. The Rajasthan Royals' skipper led his side to the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with distinction, amassing 458 runs at a superb strike rate of 146.79. With the likes of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant around, Iyer doesn't seem to be a contender for a middle-order spot in the Indian batting lineup. Further, Iyer's glaring weakness against the short balls has made him a walking wicket on many occasions. Therefore, BCCI seems to have made a wrong move by preferring him over Samson.
