Heading into Lord’s for the penultimate ODI of the series, India had a chip on their shoulders as they utterly humiliated England by ten wickets in their first clash.
Skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to invite the hosts to have a go with the bat first. England had a good start with their openers stitching together a 41-run partnership for the first wicket.
Pandya provided India with the first breakthrough as he picked off Roy at deep square leg. Chahal then ran rampant as he picked consecutive wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root in the middle overs.
Moeen Ali and David Willey save the day for England
After the early setbacks, the English middle-order managed to salvage some pride as Liam Livingstone stitched a 46 runs partnership with Moeen Ali for the sixth wicket before perishing to Pandya, who closed the tally with two wickets to his name.
Ali went to add another 62 runs to the total alongside David Willey for the seventh wicket to see England get past 200 runs. Chahal once again emerged as the strike bowler as he gave India the breakthrough by picking off Moeen at 47.
India collapse under pressure as Reece Topley bags six
The chase was never easy for India as they lost Rohit early in the third over, as Reece Topley picked him off on a ten-ball duck. Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, and Virat Kohli soon followed the skipper to the dugout leaving India down to 31 at the loss of four wickets.
Suryakumar Yadav added 42 runs for the fifth wicket alongside Hardik but failed to take it to the end as Reece Topley knocked his stumps over, picking his third wicket.
Jadeja gives his all but India collapse under pressure
Jadeja put up a valiant effort alongside Shami to add 39 runs for the seventh wicket, but it was all for nought as Livingstone knocked his stumps over.
The English bowlers then made quick work of the last two batters, winning the contest by 100 runs to equalize the series. Topley emerged as the Player of the Match with six wickets.
