ENG vs IND |1st Test: 4 batsmen register ducks as England suffer another collapse

England suffered a spectacular batting collapse to get bowled out for 183 on Day-1 of the first Test against India at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. As many as four England batsmen fell for a duck. Dan Lawrence, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, and Ollie Robbinson were the batters who did not bother to trouble the scorers. 

This is the second instance of four England batsmen falling for zero after the Ahmedabad Test against the same opposition earlier this year. Joe Root top-scored for England with a commanding half-century, but his wicket to Shardul Thakur completely derailed England’s batting effort.

From a relatively stronger position of 138/3 with the skipper Root and Jonny Bairstow batting strongly, England lost seven wickets for meagre 45 runs and squandered the advantage of winning the toss and batting first.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with a four-wicket haul, followed by Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur. Shami picked up three wickets while Shardul managed the scalp out two important wickets to help contain England.

Virat Kohli will be delighted to start off the series on an impressive note as India and England are playing a five-match long Test series which darts the second cycle of the World Test Championship.
