Joe Root becomes England's leading run-scorer in international cricket

Joe Root has become the highest run-getter for England across all formats. The right-handed batsman achieved the feat during the first Test of the five-match series against India in Nottingham on Wednesday and surpassed former skipper Alastair Cook who scored 15737 runs in 387 innings.

The England Test captain has scored over 8000 runs in the longer format while has notched up 6109 runs in 152 ODIs that he has played for the side and was a part of the World Cup-winning side in 2019 that was led by Eoin Morgan. England defeated New Zealand in the title clash at Lord’s.

Root has also been capped 32 times in the T20Is so far and has scored 893 runs.

He began his Test career against India back in 2012 in Nagpur and scored a half-century in his first appearance in a game that ended in a draw. Root made his T20I debut later in the same year against India in Mumbai while was first capped in an ODI in 2013 in Rajkot against The Men in Blue.

India and England are presently battling it out in a five-match Test series which has also marked the beginning of the second cycle of the World Test Championship.

Rain plays spoilsport in Bravo’s last international match on home soil, Pakistan take series 1-0

Once again, the rain was the villain in anotherT20I between West Indies and Pakistan at Providence Stadium, Guyana as the fourth and final T20I was also abandoned due to rain and courtesy of its win in the second T20I, which was also the only completed match in this series, Pakistan took the series 1-0. More than the 1-0 series loss, the West Indies players were disappointed by the fact that one of the stalwarts of Caribbean cricket in the T20 format, Dwayne Bravo could not take any part in what would go down in history as his last international game on home soil. Just after the toss, Windies skipper Kieron Pollard had announced that it would be the last game for Bravio at home soil, indicating that the all-rounder would be retiring after this year’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in October-November in the United Arab Emirates and Oman, but would be hosted by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Only three overs could be bowled in the entire game where West Indies scored 30 without any loss after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. This was also the last white ball game of this summer for the West Indies at home and as per records, they lost the T20I series 2-3 to South Africa, won 4-1 against Australia and lost 1-0 against Pakistan. These two teams will now compete in the red-ball format with the first of the two Tests starting from August 12 in Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica.
