Durham signs Nic Maddinson for County Championship and Royal London One Day Cup

On June 20 (Monday), Durham County Cricket Club signed Australian batter Nic Maddinson for the remaining matches of the County Championship 2022 and the Royal London One Day Cup.

Currently, Maddinson is featuring for the Australia A team in the bilateral series against Sri Lanka A.

In 104 First-class matches, the southpaw has amassed 6684 runs at an average of 40.02, with 15 centuries. In 89 List-A appearances, he has 2768 runs, comprising six tons.

He has been a part of 6 ODIs and 3 Tests for Australia and has garnered 72 runs.

Although he has not been featured for the Australian senior team since 2016, the 30-year-old is close to making a comeback due to his impressive performances in domestic cricket.

In seven games of the 2021/22 edition of Sheffield Shield, Maddinson amassed 545 runs at an average of 54.50, with two centuries and as many fifties.

Maddinson was grateful for the opportunity to feature for Durham in both formats.

"I am really proud and excited to be joining Durham Cricket. The opportunity to play both County Championship and One Day matches is something I am really looking forward to," said Maddinson.

"I have been keeping a close eye on the season so far and can't wait to get to the UK and join up with such a great club,"

Director of Cricket at Durham, Marcus North, has hoped the 30-year-old will be valuable to the team in both departments.

"Nic provides us with a very talented overseas signing who offers something with both bat and ball in both red and white ball cricket," said North.

"His record in domestic cricket back in Australia is fantastic, and we are sure he will be a great addition to the Durham squad,"

In the County Championship Division Two, Durham have secured only a single victory in eight games. In the next six matches, Durham will undoubtedly have to secure wins in at least half of them to win the Title and get promoted to Division One.
