As the cricketing world bids farewell to 2023, Shubman Gill, the young and dynamic Indian batter, took to social media on New Year's Eve to share a heartfelt reflection on his roller-coaster journey throughout the year. Gill, who emerged as a key player for the senior national team, expressed gratitude for the highs, acknowledged the learning from setbacks, and looked forward to the challenges and opportunities that 2024 holds.

In a New Year's Eve social media post, Sharing a snapshot of his pre-2023 bucket list, Gill expressed optimism for the future, saying,

"The end of the year didn't go as planned, but I can proudly say we came ever so close to our goals, giving everything we had. The coming year brings its own challenges and opportunities. Hopefully, we'll get closer to our goals in 2024. I hope all of you find love, joy, and strength in everything you do."

The 24-year-old's handwritten New Year resolutions included ambitious goals such as scoring the most hundreds for India in 2023, winning the Orange Cap, and clinching the World Cup trophy with the team. Despite the highs, Gill also candidly shared the heartbreaks of the ODI World Cup and the Boxing Day Test in South Africa. Dengue forced him to miss the initial matches of the World Cup, and upon return, he grappled with consistency. Gill acknowledged the learning curve from these setbacks, expressing pride in the team's effort despite falling short of their goals.

The highlight of Gill's remarkable year was undoubtedly his stellar performance in various formats. The young cricketer achieved a milestone by becoming the youngest player to score a majestic maiden ODI double-century against New Zealand early in the year. His consistency in ODIs was evident as he amassed an impressive 1584 runs at an average above 60, featuring six centuries. In the T20Is, Gill showcased his skills with a notable century against Australia at home.

However, it was in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 that Gill truly stole the limelight. Finishing as the highest run-scorer of the season, he secured the coveted Orange Cap by accumulating a staggering 890 runs. His three centuries during the tournament, including a high score of 129, propelled him into an elite group of batters who have scored over 800 runs in a single IPL season.

Gill, who finished the year with 7 centuries across formats, just one shy of Virat Kohli, is gearing up for the New Year's Test in South Africa. As India aims to start 2024 on a high and avoid a series of defeats, Gill's role remains crucial. Furthermore, he is set to take on a new leadership role as the captain of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, adding another layer to his evolving cricketing journey.
