Dawid Malan's show Powers Trent Rockets To 8-Wicket Win Over Manchester Originals

Riding on an explosive knock of unbeaten 98 by opener Dawin Malan, Trent Rockets cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Manchester Originals in the 11th match of The Hundred 2022 at Old Trafford on Saturday, August 13.

Manchester bowlers sent on leather hunt

Chasing a colossal total of 189, all Trent Rockets needed was a flying start and their openers did exactly as Alex Hales and Dawid Malan made a mockery of Manchester bowlers and battered them all around the park to notch up an 85-run opening stand.

While Alex Hales perished after scoring 38 off 20 balls, Malan continued his onslaught and played a stupendous inning of unbeaten 98 off 44 balls to help Trent Rockets overwhelm the target without a fuss.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore also played a breezy cameo of 27-ball 30 before Ian Cockbain tonked the winning runs for the Nottinghamshire-based franchise as the team won the match with six balls to spare.

For Manchester Originals, only Tom Hartley and Matt Parksion could manage to get a wicket.

Philip Salt's sumptuous knock went in vain

Earlier, asked to bat first, riding on Philip Salt’s unbeaten 70 off 46 balls, Manchester posted a formidable total of 189 for the loss of three wickets in the allocated 100-balls.

Salt, who embraced his knock with 6 fours and 2 monstrous sixes joined hands with skipper Jos Buttler (25-ball 41) at the top to put up an 84-run stand for the opening wicket.

Andre Russell (10-ball 16) and Tristan Stubbs (10-ball 27) chipped in with handy contributions as well before Laurie Evan finished things on high, scoring an unbeaten 26 from 11 deliveries.

For Trent Rockets, Samit Patel (2/20) and Tabraiz Shamsi (1/45) shared three wickets.

It was a third straight win for Trent Rockets as they continue their stay in the top two of the league table. Manchester Originals, on the contrary, succumbed to their third successive loss. Currently, they are languishing at the second last spot of the points ranking.
