In a massive setback for New Zealand, experienced batter Daryl Mitchell has been ruled out of the ongoing series between New Zealand and West Indies due to injury. The BlackCaps confirmed the development through an official announcement on their X handle. Veteran left-handed batter Henry Nicholls has been added to the New Zealand squad as his replacement.

Daryl Mitchell had a magnificent start to the ODI series against West Indies, amassing a glorious century in the opening encounter at Hagley Oval. However, during his valiant knock, the 34-year-old sustained a groin injury and subsequently underwent further assessment.
The scans revealed a minor tear in his left groin, ruling him out of the remainder of New Zealand's ODI series against West Indies. The middle-order batter played a pivotal role in the BlackCaps' thrilling win over the visitors in the first ODI, scoring 119 runs off 118 deliveries with the help of twelve boundaries and two sixes.
The ace cricketer has showcased remarkable form in ODIs this year, slamming 761 runs, including seven fifty-plus scores at a superb average of 54.36. So, his unavailability will certainly affect New Zealand's performance as they seek a home series win over the men from the Caribbean.
Talking about Henry Nicholls, the left-handed batter has represented New Zealand in 81 One-Day Internationals with modest success, amassing 2180 runs at an average of 34.6 and a strike rate of 80.3. The veteran cricketer has clobbered 16 fifty-plus scores, including one hundred and 15 half-centuries, in the format.
New Zealand are leading the series by 1-0, having secured a narrow six-run victory in the opening clash in Christchurch. The second ODI between the two sides will be played on November 19 at McLean Park in Napier.
