Darren Stevens reacts to Kent's honorary gesture post retirement

Darren Stevens, the legendary all-rounder in English domestic cricket is all set to leave his beloved county side Kent by the end of this summer. He has played for Kent for 18 years and his exit was as outstanding as his career. he helped Kent lift the Royal London One Day Cup beating Lancashire in the final. 

Speaking about some of his fondest memories with the club, he vividly remembers his 205 not out against Lancashire in 2013 which ended Lancashire’s unbeaten run as Kent chased down 418 to win by two wickets.

Stevens received a guard of honour from the Kent players, ahead of a special presentation for him. Not only that, a "Stevo Day" celebratory book had been placed inside the Kent Cricket shop for members and supporters to write down their favourite Stevens memories.

The club announced the retirement of the no. 3 jersey in honour of the talismanic all-rounder's contributions. This happened at a special presentation which took place during the lunch of day two of their County Championship Division 1 match with Somerset on Tuesday, their last match this season.

I would have loved to have won more: Stevens

Darren Stevens also talked about his contribution to the club and also the numerous silverware he has accumulated with the team. He further mentioned that he would have loved to win more trophies. Stevens said:

“Look, our job as professional cricketers is to win trophies and I have given it all every year for Kent and, at the end of it, I have got three trophies with the club. I’m very emotional. I think it took it more out of me last week. Before the final, there was a lot of thinking time over that week in the build-up to the final. 

Look, our job as professional cricketers is to win trophies and I have given it all every year for Kent and, at the end of it, I have got three trophies with the club, The one that gets me is the [County] Championship, we finished twice a couple of years.

That’s one I’ll look back on and be a bit disappointed [about] but, obviously, three trophies in the cabinet is nice.”
