Shivam Dube may not be lighting up the IPL 2025 with his bat, but off the field, the Chennai Super Kings all-rounder is making headlines. In a feel-good moment that won hearts all around, Dube announced a personal contribution of INR 70,000 each to 10 budding athletes from Tamil Nadu during the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists’ Association’s (TNSJA) awards and scholarships function on Tuesday.

Shivam Dube Won Hearts With Generous Gift To Budding Tamil Nadu Athletes

At a time when CSK is struggling on the points table, Shivam Dube's gesture off the field shows that the spirit of the game goes far beyond runs and wickets.

It wasn’t pre-planned or scripted. Dube revealed that the idea came to him while driving to the venue from the team hotel, after a quick chat with TNCA secretary Dr Baba.

“It was an effort to help some of the youngsters over here. So, this is truly encouraging for all the young athletes,” Dube said, speaking at the event attended by CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan.

His support was over and above the INR 30,000 scholarship handed out by TNSJA.

“Every Penny Matters” Says The World Cup Winner

Dube, who was part of India’s victorious T20 World Cup 2024 squad, knows the grind of starting from scratch. He stressed how even small tokens of recognition can push young athletes to go that extra mile.

“This ₹30,000 may seem like a small amount, but it serves as encouragement. When you are young, every penny and every award truly matters.”

He added that while such initiatives are common in Mumbai, other states should also follow suit to uplift grassroots talent.

“These small things provide them with the extra motivation to strive harder and bring pride to the nation.”

The 10 athletes selected for scholarships come from a wide range of sports:

PB Abhinandh (Table Tennis), KS Vhenisa Sree (Archery), Muthumeena Vellasami (Para Athletics), Shameena Riaz (Squash), Jayant RK & S Nandhana (Cricket), Kamali P (Surfing), R Abinaya & RC Jithin Arjunan (Athletics), A Takkshanth (Chess).

These aren’t big names yet but with the right support, they could well be the stars of tomorrow.

On The Field, Dube’s Season Still Warming Up

Dube’s form with the bat this IPL season has been steady but not explosive. In 8 matches, he has scored 230 runs at an average of 38.33 and a strike rate of 133.72, including a solitary fifty.

That said, CSK’s campaign has been wobbly, sitting at the bottom of the table with just 2 wins from 8 games. Fans were hoping for Dube to be the middle-order dynamite but it's safe to say the big fireworks are still due.
