Cricket Association of Nepal announces Nepal’s T20 League; sets date and venue

On Wednesday, May 18, Nepal’s Youth and Sports Minister Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj announced NepalT20, Nepal’s official T20 cricket league. In a press release, the minister said, “It gives me immense pleasure to announce Nepal’s official cricket league today”.

Gahatraj expressed his confidence in the proposed league, describing NepalT20 as an ‘excellent platform’ for promoting cricket among the youth of Nepal. He also stated that such a tournament could help Nepal qualify for the next T20 World Cup.

The Cricket Association of Nepal has previously stated that cricket leagues are gaining popularity worldwide. As the fifteenth edition of India’s IPL 2022 season reaches its fag end, Nepal’s cricket board came up with dates, format, and setting for their newly proposed tournament.

As per the announcement, the first edition of Nepal’s official T20 Cricket League will commence from September 24 onwards this year. The tournament will conclude with the final on October 22. A total of six teams will be participating in the inaugural NepalT20 for national glory in a ‘home and away’ format.

Speaking on the development, Nepal cricket President Chatur Bahadur Chand said, “Nepal T20 will take Nepal Cricket to a new paradigm with the launch of Nepal’s official T20 competition that will provide Nepal cricket players much needed exposure of competing with the top international players.”

While the inaugural season of the NepalT20 is set to feature six teams, the cricket board also announced that the committee will be looking to add more teams over the next few years.
