IPL 2021 | Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav return to Mumbai Indians camp

As soon as the fifth and final Test between England and India was “cancelled”, the focus shifted to the second part of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League which is scheduled to take off in the UAE from September 19. There were discussions and expectations that players, especially the Indian ones will be flowing to the UAE directly from Manchester and later it was reported that the players will be flying on a chartered flight. Mumbai Indians are the first among other IPL sides to welcome their star players in skipper Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah among the squad to restart their defence of the title. Both Rohit and Bumrah have been the lynchpins of Mumbai Indians’ success in the history of IPL and the side have won as many as five IPL trophies after Rohit took over the reins from Ricky Ponting in 2013. Both of them have also been the best player for India in their respective departments in the series against England the Mumbai team management would be hoping they would replicate their performances in the shortest format as well. The Mumbai Indians will take on the Chennai Super Kings in the first encounter of the revamped version of the IPL this year. Indian players refused to play the Manchester Test after the second physio Yogesh Parmar tested Covid-19 positive after arriving in the city for the final Test. India’s refusal to play created a chaotic situation for both the ECB and the BCCI for the final decision on the game and the series. Indian players have also been blamed for prioritising the “money” they would be earning from IPL over Test cricket by some section of UK media.

CPL 2021 | JT vs GAW: Crucial points at stake as Amazon Warriors look to get past Tallawahs

The ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League has reached it’s the business end and every match from here on will be very crucial for the franchises in line to get through to the knockout stage. It will be the Jamaica Tallawahs who will take on Guyana Amazon Warriors at Warner Park in St. Kitts in the 26th match of the competition. Both teams have won four games each but the Tallawahs have got an extra game and will look to solidify their position in the top four. On the other hand, the Amazon Warriors are at the 5th position with four wins and four losses and a win against Tallawahs will give them a huge boost and will ensure their qualification to the next round. The Tallawahs were given a reality check by defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders but came back strongly against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots to get back to winning ways. They carried the momentum in the next game thrashing the St Lucia Kings by 55 runs. After going down in a couple of consecutive matches, the Jamaica Tallawahs have changed their tide after winning back to back games. With the playoffs just around the corner, the Tallawahs have risen at the correct time and will look to continue their winning momentum. Coming to the Guyana Amazon Warriors, they have had an indifferent run in the tournament so far having won four out of the 8 matches they have played so far. They have a fifty per cent record even in their last four encounters. They did manage to script a win against the St Lucia Kings in the previous encounter after managing to defend a score of 151. Guyana have produced some exceptional performances from individuals in patches but haven’t been consistent in all the departments. With three teams tied on eight points, it will be a must-win contest for both teams to make an easy pathway for the playoffs. Match Details: Jamaica Tallawahs vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Venue: Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts Date and Time: September 12th, 12:00 AM IST TV and live streaming: Starts Sports 1 and Fancode Pitch Report The surface on offer at St Kitt’s has been spin-friendly but if batsmen get in they can score big. Run scoring isn’t that difficult but the pitch will offer grip and turn for the spinners. We have seen scores between 150-200 this tournament so far which suggests that the pitch is not that bad for batting. It might not be a belter of a wicket with spinners having a major say in the game. Weather Report The weather report for the 26th encounter isn’t a pleasing one for the fans. There is prediction for shower but it should only be a passing one. Temperature is expected to hover around 30 to 32 degrees. Probable XI’s Jamaica Tallawahs- Kennar Lewis (wk), Kirk McKenzie, Shamarh Brooks, Rovman Powell (c), Carlos Brathwaite, Andre Russell, Haider Ali, Migael Pretorius, Imad Wasim, Chris Green, Veerasammy Permaul.
