County Championship 2022 | Toby Pettman heads to Derbyshire on Loan from Nottinghamshire

The overlapping of the different domestic tournaments has forced many Counties to do short-term signings in order to fill the gaps in their squad.

The talented Nottingham pacer Toby Pettman has joined the Derbyshire County team on loan for their County Championship Division Two fixture against Middlesex, which will be played from June 12 at Queen's Park, Chesterfield.

Pettman emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2021 edition of the Second XI Championship with 32 scalps in 11 appearances at 26.25, with the best match figures of 8/91.

In October 2021, Pettman signed a one-year contract, which would keep him with Nottinghamshire County until the end of this year.

The 24-year-old pacer had been approached by the Derbyshire County team in the squad due to the injuries of Ben Aitchison and Suranga Lakmal.

On the other hand, the likes of Hayden Kerr and George Scrimshaw are trying to manage their workload in a better way to maintain fitness for red-ball cricket.

Pettman has not yet played for the Notts First XI team but has impressed with 33 wickets at 21.15 and scored 122 runs for Oxford University.

Pettman thinks it will be an excellent opportunity to gain first-class experience and is excited to showcase his talent. "This is a great chance to gain more first-class experience, and I can't wait to get out there and show what I can do.

"Derbyshire have had a good start to the red-ball season, so it's an exciting team to be a part of. I'm looking forward to making a good contribution with the ball and hopefully getting a good result against Middlesex," said Pettman.

Derbyshire are positioned fifth in the points table, with a single win in six league matches.
