County Championship 2022 | Adam Lyth’s unbeaten century hands Yorkshire the first-innings advantage

Before rain halted proceedings and ushered in early Stumps on Day 2, Yorkshire led by 25 runs. Propelled by Adam Lyth's unbeaten hundred, the home side gained the first-innings lead. 

Lyth was ably supported by young Harry Brook, who unfortunately missed out on a century. Warwickshire managed to pick just four wickets in the day's play as their bowlers were made to toil hard.

Resuming on the overnight score of 28/0, Yorkshire lost George Hill quite early. He got dismissed on 25 as Henry Brookes made him edge one behind to the keeper. He could only add four runs to his overnight tally. 

Will Fraine arrived on the scene and played at a steady rate. His short innings of 31 was brought to an end by Will Rhodes. Stitching a 49-run partnership with Lyth, he struck five boundaries.

Fraine's departure brought the former England red-ball skipper, Joe Root, to the middle. However, Root failed to make much of an impact in the game as an uncharacteristic shot ended his innings. He played Brookes' delivery away from the body to nick one behind. 

The fall of the third wicket announced the arrival of Brook to the crease. In the midst of a purple patch and brimming with confidence after being called up to the English Test squad, Brooks displayed sheer class.

Brooks and Lyth added a significant 157 runs for the fifth wicket. While Lyth held one end, Brooks played at a brisk rate. His knock of 82 came in only 117 balls, with twelve boundaries to his name.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby dismissed Brooks against the run of the day's play. While Brooks failed to achieve the three-figure mark, Lyth is still going strong on 118.

Henry Brookes was the most successful bowler for Warwickshire as he claimed two out of the four wickets that fell during the day.
