Cheteshwar Pujara breaks 118-year old Sussex record


Cheteshwar Pujara’s 231-run knock helped him become the first Sussex player in 118 years to score three double tons in a single season. The experienced Indian batter has four scores of over 150, and five hundreds in an astonishing County season.


In 10 innings, Pujara has amassed 997 runs at a staggering average of 124.62. His season just keeps getting better with every passing game, which has helped him reclaim his spot in the Indian Test side.

Despite the gruelling conditions on offer, Cheteshwar Pujara was as calm as you expect him to be. Sussex posted a first innings total of 523 runs, with the skipper lasting for over 400 deliveries.


The Indian batter stitched a magnificent 219-run partnership with Tom Alsop for the third wicket. Despite losing partners on the other end, Pujara held firm. He batted with the tail in the latter stages of the innings, adding almost 200 runs to the team’s tally.


Pujara found the ropes on regular occasions, scoring 21 boundaries and three maximums in his 231-run knock.
