Carlos Brathwaite has been signed by Gulf Giants for the inaugural edition of the International T20. The West Indies allrounder has replaced the English pacer Craig Overton in the squad.

Overton was named initially in the James Vince-led side, but a lumbar stress fracture has ruled the Englishman out of the tournament.

While talking about Brathwaite's inclusion and the injury to Overton, Gulf Giants head coach Andy Flower said:

"It’s unfortunate he won’t be part of the tournament given the nature of his injury. I wish him a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, I am happy that we are getting Carlos on board. He is a young dynamic player who will strengthen our squad."

The 2016 T20 World Cup-famed Brathwaite isn't a like-to-like replacement for the seamer, however; the Windies allrounder is going through a purple patch, which he translated in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League.

In LPL 2022, the Barbadian scalped 18 wickets from eight matches with his medium pace. While his power-hitting game is incomparable in the shortest format of the game.

The Giants will kick off their campaign on Sunday, when they take on the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
