India will be looking to regain some of the pride they lost during their humiliating defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Their next big assignment, the ICC Champions Trophy, will be the perfect stage for them to display their cricketing brilliance and regain their status in world cricket.
Notably, the ICC Champions Trophy is being organised after 8 years. In the tournament's last edition, India emerged runners-up after losing the final to their arch-rivals, Pakistan. Time has passed since then, and the India team has gone through many ups and downs.
So, here are three major changes in the Indian squad that we are almost sure to see from CT 2017.
3 No MS Dhoni Behind The Stumps

During the Champions Trophy 2017, MS Dhoni was India's designated keeper. But after that, we witnessed the heartbreaking loss of India in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2019 and the retirement of the Indian stalwart following it. Though it is unclear who India's keeper batter will be in CT 2025, the top two contenders are KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Whoever gets the job will have big boots to fill.
2. Plethora Of Stars Retired
Not only MS Dhoni but also many key members of the CT 2017 side have announced their retirement from cricket. Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuvraj Singh are the players who were a part of that side but no longer play international cricket.
1. Change Of Captains
India played in the Champions Trophy 2017 under the leadership of Virat Kohli. Notably, the Indian star's reign as the captain of the team is over, and it has been about three to four years since he stepped down from the role. The current Indian skipper is Rohit Sharma, who has already led the side to a T20 World Cup win in 2024. The Indian cricket fans will hope that Sharma continues his brilliant job as a captain in the limited overs and brings home the CT 2025 trophy.
