Cameron White appointed as the assistant coach of Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers on Wednesday (July 20) roped in Cameron White as the assistant coach of the team ahead of the Big Bash League season 12.

The club confirmed that the ex-Australian all-rounder will replace assistant Gavan Twining as the new assistant coach of the team. Gavan took on the full-time head coach role with the New South Wales (NSW) Breakers last summer.

White announced his retirement from professional cricket in August 2020 to turn his attention towards coaching. He was involved in the development of Victoria’s under-19 talents.

Before this appointment, the 38-year-old retired cricketer served as the assistant coach for Adelaide Strikers in the BBL|10.

White elated to work with Shipperd

Speaking on the excitement about his new job and working with Sixers head coach Greg Shipperd, the Victorian said:

“I’m obviously very excited by the move and looking forward to working with the master coach. It’s been a little while since we worked together going back to my Victorian state days in a player/coach relationship. This is obviously newer with Shippy the coach and me as his assistant, but we know each other well and we have similar views on the game. The one constant is I am still looking to learn as much as I can from him.”

“The squad looks strong again for this season. The depth of talent in NSW is always significant and this squad reflects that.”

“Cameron (White) demonstrated his leadership from a very early stage of his professional cricket career and he is a great communicator - two skills that are important to coaching,” Greg Shipperd said on the appointment of White.
