Cameron Green, fresh from a sturdy IPL 2023 campaign for the Mumbai Indians, has joined his Australian teammates for the upcoming Ashes and the WTC final. Even though Green was recently diagnosed with two months of pure T20 action, Australia’s assistant coach Daniel Vettori believes the all-rounder will come up trumps in the forthcoming Tests because of his active participation in competitive cricket.

The 23-year-old turned up in each of Mumbai Indians’ 16 games of the recently-concluded season, and ended up as their third highest scorer with 452 runs. The all-rounder clubbed a hundred and two fifties, and snared six wickets with his right-arm medium pace.

Vettori describes Green as huge part of the Test side

Cameron Green has played 20 Tests for Australia since his debut in the format back in December 2020. The cricketer, who scored 228 runs and bagged 13 wickets in Australia’s 4-0 Ashes triumph at home last year, is set to make his Test debut in England through the upcoming matches.

The youngster was recently involved in an intense training session in London along with the rest of his teammates. According to Daniel Vettori, the West Australian cricketer is gearing up in the background to make sure he is ready for the Tests.

Here's what Vettori said:

“Any cricket is preparation now. He is doing work in the background to make sure his bowling loads are up and he is actually ready for Test cricket. We look at it like if you are involved in high-intensity, high-class cricket, we are happy with that as it means you are playing cricket.”

The former New Zealand captain also described the all-rounder as a huge part of the Australian side, and believes he gained much confidence off his successful IPL season.

“With Cameron, I think he has been playing so much cricket, he will be fine. It's great to have him back. He offers so much to the team and had a great series in India for us and then is coming off the back of a successful IPL. It's great he's got some confidence … he's a huge part of the side.”

The WTC 2023 final between India and Australia will commence on June 7 at The Oval. Australia will then face hosts England in a five-match Ashes series between June 16 and July 31.
