Indian cricketer Wriddhiman Saha had recently revealed that a journalist had hurt and offended him. He had also attached a screenshot of the conversation but had not revealed the name of the journalist. After a meeting with the BCCI on 5th March, 2022 Saha finally revealed the name of the journalist.
"I have told the committee everything I know. I have shared all the details with them. I can't tell you much right now. BCCI has asked me not to talk about the meeting outside as they will answer all your queries," Saha told reporters after appearing before the committee here.
However, before the BCCI could make the name of the journalist public, Boria Majumdar posted a video on his Twitter account calling all the allegations made by the Indian wicket keeper baseless. He claimed that the chats had been doctored in order to damage his reputation. Boria also said that his lawyers would be serving a defamation notice to Saha.
It is noteworthy that Saha had earlier said that even though he was very hurt by the behavior of the journalist, he did not want to harm anyone’s reputation and therefore did not reveal the name. However, the matter became very popular amongst the entire cricket fraternity and everyone demanded action against the journalist.
The BCCI eventually stepped in and spoke to Saha about the matter. It remains to be seen what action will be taken but this is definitely a big decision. Boria Majumdar has clearly stated that the conversation is nothing like what Saha tried to project. He also said that he would request the BCCI for a fair hearing.
In the video uploaded by Boria he spoke about how the actual conversation was in a very different context and in no way had he threatened the Indian keeper. The chats were regarding the IPL auction and not Saha being dropped from the Indian cricket team.
He also alleged that Saha had deliberately manipulated the chats in order to gain public sympathy. Boria Majumdar said that he had known Saha for years and he was absolutely shocked after seeing the tweets put up by the cricketer. He also said that this had affected not only him but his entire family as they had been mercilessly trolled by the public.
We do not know who is right or wrong but can only hope for this matter to be solved in a sophisticated manner as it will definitely affect Indian cricket as a whole. The BCCI will have to be very careful before taking any decision in this regard.
