Border-Gavaskar Trophy no more a four-match series: BCCI

One of the best and most competitive series in the modern era, India and Australia's Border-Gavaskar Trophy has always stood up to expectations. The eagerness to perform under tough conditions have graced the world of cricket as some of the best performers have shed their blood and sweat for the country.

While the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played in India, there is one more piece of news that will please the fans. The BCCI has announced that the two sides in the future would be engaged in the five-Test match series instead of four, as been the norm currently.

"This will also be the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will be a 4-match Test series feature."

This news was revealed on the sidelines of India's squad announcement for the series where the team for the first two Tests to be played at Nagpur and Delhi were revealed.

The change would be applicable from the next cycle of the Future Tour Program (FTP) that kicks in 2023. 

The first series under the applicable change will be India's tour of Australia which will be played during the WTC 2023-25 cycle whereas the reverse series will be played in the subcontinent under the 2025-27 championship.

Previously, India defeated Australia by 2-1 in enthralling series down under in 2020-21 that went as the best in the history of the competition.
