New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a foot injury. This is a big setback for the team, as Ferguson’s pace and experience were crucial for their bowling attack. In his place, Kyle Jamieson has been called up to the squad.  While Jamieson is a talented pacer, stepping in for Ferguson will be a huge challenge, especially in a high-stakes tournament like the CT.

The news was confirmed just a day before New Zealand's opening match against Pakistan on February 19 at the National Stadium in Karachi. The team will now have to move forward without one of their key pacers.

BlackCaps head coach, Gary Stead, expressed his disappointment over Ferguson’s injury.

We’re really disappointed for Lockie,” said Stead.“Lockie is a key part of the bowling group and brings a lot of major tournament experience and we know how much he was looking forward to representing New Zealand at another major event."

Ferguson’s Recent Injury Struggles

This is not the first time Ferguson has struggled with injuries. Earlier, while playing for Desert Vipers in the UAE's International League T20 (ILT20), he suffered a hamstring injury. That injury kept him out of New Zealand’s recent Tri-Nation series against South Africa and Pakistan, which the BlackCaps won.

The 33-year-old fast bowler has been a consistent performer for New Zealand, taking 99 wickets in 65 ODIs. His absence will surely be felt, as New Zealand faces some of the toughest teams in the Champions Trophy.
