  • Ben Green Re Appointed Captain Of Somerset Paul Tweddle To Take Up Head Coach Duties

Ben Green re-appointed captain of Somerset, Paul Tweddle to take up head coach duties

Somerset all-rounder Ben Green will don the captaincy cap for his County Cricket Club in the forthcoming Royal London Cup. The 24-year-old has made 8 List A appearances so far for the Club and amassed 145 runs in 6 innings.

Green, on his re-appointment as the captain of the Somerset Cricket Club, expressed gratitude and said he is delighted and excited to learn from the experienced campaigners in the squad.

"I'm delighted with how it went last year and hopefully we can build on that this summer with the squad that we have and push for the title," said Green.

"We all took some huge learnings from last year's campaign with both the bat and the ball. This year it's again about staying in the game for as long as we can. We've got some experienced heads in the squad who have played a lot of 50-over cricket, so I can learn from them and we're all really looking forward to it," he added.

Green further asserted that the main junctures from Somerset's 2021 Royal London Cup campaign were the performances of the Club's younger players. They were allowed to represent their county side, and they stepped up and delivered.

"One of the real highlights from last season was the emergence of some of our young lads," the all-rounder said.

The 24-year-old also stated that the experience that younger players got in the tournament's last edition will work as a "building block" for those players in the upcoming season of the Royal London Cup.

"That can only put them in a good place to perform again at that level this year. Last season's experience will be a terrific building block for those players. The way that they coped with the pressure is a real testament to the system that we have here at Somerset.

"Our Pathway system gives these players the opportunity to flourish. The character of the guys we have here in the locker room is first class. They were unfazed by the crowds and the Test match venues, and they all stepped up at certain intervals throughout the competition. Hopefully, they can do the same again this year," Green concluded.

Paul Tweddle Re-Appointed Head Coach

In another set of developments, Paul Tweddle will again take up the role of Head Coach for Somerset Cricket County in the one-day tournament.

The skipper Ben Green welcomed the move and said, "I get on tremendously well with Tweddle. I think he also learned a lot last year, but I felt that he stepped up to the role very well. He showed a lot of great traits that will stand both him and the Club in good stead for the future."

Tweddle is also excited to take up the challenge again and he is looking forward to the opportunity.

"I'm really proud to have been given this opportunity again and I'll approach it with the same enthusiasm and passion that I did last year," he said.

"I think that the squad did themselves proud last year. There were a few things that didn't go our way, but to a man, those who were given the opportunity to represent the Club in 2021 took the chance really well. The younger guys will have gained some valuable experience of the First XI environment and they performed superbly," Paul added.
