Ben Cooper retires from international cricket

Star Netherlands batter Ben Cooper decided to call it a day from international cricket as he will longer represent the country in the global arena. Sharing the announcement on Twitter, Cooper ended his international cricket career that spanned over eight years.

With Cooper only aged 29, his retirement came as a shock to the cricketing fraternity. He last played for the national side in the T20 World Cup 2021.

"Today, I announce my retirement from international cricket. It has been an absolute honour and privilege to don the oranges and represent the Netherlands for the last eight years," Cooper wrote in his retirement post.

"It's been a time filled with amazing highs, special moments and tough lows. There's nothing I would change about it and will look back at my time with very fond memories," added the Dutch.

Making his debut in 2013 against Canada, Cooper made 70 international appearances for Holland. He is the Netherlands' highest run-getter in the T20Is having accumulated a total of 1,239 runs at an average of 28.16. The southpaw scored 187 runs in 13 ODIs.

"@kncbcricket thank you for the opportunity to live out a childhood dream. To my Netherlands teammates and coaches (past and present) I thank you all for the amazing memories and couldn't ask for better people to share the field and change rooms with. I have no doubt the current squad and talent coming through will continue to achieve great things for Dutch cricket," the post further read.

Following his brother Tom in the club VRA Amsterdam, Ben finished his domestic career with an impressive record. Boasting many achievements, including only double hundred in the Dutch domestic top flight this century, Cooper will look back at his career with a smile.
