According to emerging reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could make significant amendments to its central contracts for the upcoming season. The modifications might lead to the promotion of India's Test and ODI captain, Shubman Gill, to the A-plus category, while the board is also expected to take a call on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's central contracts at its upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Rohit, Kohli central contract prime agenda in BCCI annual AGM
The BCCI apex council will conduct its annual AGM on December 22. As reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the decision-makers are expected to discuss the possibility of revising Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's central contracts.
It's worth mentioning that Kohli and Rohit have retired from T20I and Test cricket, currently featuring only in the ODI team. As they are no longer among India's all-format players, the BCCI is mulling over modifying their central contracts for the upcoming season.
Rohit and Kohli are currently placed in the top-most A-plus category. However, if their central contracts are revised, we might witness a demotion for the talismanic cricketing duo in the final list.
Shubman Gill to be promoted to A-plus category
The report also claims that the BCCI could promote Shubman Gill to the A-plus category, as he serves as the Indian captain in Tests and ODIs. Additionally, the Punjab cricketer is the vice-captain of the Indian T20I side and might soon replace Suryakumar Yadav in the role after the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Gill is expected to be a part of the A-plus category alongside veteran allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah.
BCCI central contracts: How much money the contracted players receive?
According to the existing policy, players in the A-plus category receive a hefty amount of INR 7 crores from the BCCI. Those in the A-category get five crores per year, while players in the B and C categories receive three and one crores, respectively, from the apex cricketing body in India. Shubman Gill is currently placed in the A-category, and his annual salary will surge by a massive amount of INR 2 crores if he's promoted to the A-plus group.
