BCCI refuses to send additional players to England even after Covid-19 in India camp: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused to send any extra player to the United Kingdom in the wake of Covid-19 cases being reported in the camp, The Indian Express reported. Notably, Rishabh Pant is under quarantine after testing positive for the novel Coronavirus on July 8 while the other wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha is under isolation as well after coming in close contact with the throwdown specialist who tested positive.

“No," The Indian Express quoted a BCCI official as saying while responding to the question of whether the board is willing to send additional players foreseeing a crisis.

Apart from Saha and, bowling coach Bharat Arun and batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran are also under self-isolation as they had come under close contact of Garani.

“Pant, who had not stayed in the team hotel during the break period, tested positive on 8th July. He is asymptomatic and currently undergoing self-isolation at the place where he reported positive. He is being closely monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and is on his way to recovery. He will be able to join the squad in Durham after returning two negative RT-PCR tests,” said the BCCI press release.

The selectors had earlier picked a 20-man squad and four standbys players for the tour. The visitors though suffered a blow after opener Shubman Gill was ruled out of the series after he suffered a shin splits which would take at least three months for recovery.

Guys are hungry for the series win: Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie sets the tone for Finale clash vs SA

The Irish team is aiming at something that could be a thing of beauty in their cricketing history, winning a series against a team of the stature of South Africa. When they take the field in The Village, Dublin on Friday, the Irish captain Andrew Balbirnie wants to make sure that the players are up and ready for the momentous occasion. “You have to look at Friday, we could potentially win a series. We haven’t won a home ODI against a top-eight team so that’s another thing to tick off the list, but I think the guys are eager and hungry to win a series,” he was quoted as saying in the Ireland cricket’s website. The occasion, after providing Ireland with a big series win against a top eight ODI nation, but would also give the Irish men an opportunity to lift themselves to the third position on the Cricket World Cup Super League standings. But the 30-year-old skipper believes that it is more than all of it, it is rather about making strides in the right direction and showing the world that limited resources cannot stop them from achieving the big goals. “We don't have the players these teams have, we don't have the infrastructure or the exposure. A lot of the South African team have played in the IPL. We don't get that,” said Balbarnie. “We are thrilled and beating them once off is great but winning a series at the end of the week will be so important because it shows we're making strides," he added.
